Managing Director

Dato’ Helmi, 60, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University, USA, and later completed his MBA at Cranfield University, UK. He is a certified Professional Engineer (PE) registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia.

Commencing his career in offshore geotechnical investigation in 1989, he ascended to the role of Executive Director at Teknik Lengkap Sdn Bhd (TL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Crest Petroleum Berhad (now known as Sapura Energy), in the year 2000. His involvement extended to directorships in Crest Petroleum’s affiliated entities such as TL Geotechnics, TL Geohydrographics, Boustead-TL and Tioman Drilling. In 2003, he left TL to establish his own enterprise, Asian Geos Sdn Bhd (AG).

In 2011, Dato’ Helmi entered into a partnership with Gardline Geosciences Limited, UK, leading to the establishment of his venture, Helms Geomarine. This venture secured a majority stake in AG within Malaysia. Dato’ Helmi held the position of Managing Director at AG, along with directorial roles across multiple group companies, including Asian Geos (S) Pte Ltd, Asia Geos Singapore Pte Ltd, Asian Geos Labuan, PT. Asian Geos and Gardline Egypt S.A. In 2016, he departed AG to independently operate Helms Geomarine as a geotechnical survey operator.

With an extensive career spanning close to 35 years, Dato’ Helmi has made significant contributions to the international geotechnical engineering and geophysical survey domain.


General Manager

Syahril Ikhwan, 37, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Portland State University, USA and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from University of Technology MARA, Malaysia.

His professional career started with Asian Geos Sdn Bhd back in July 2008 and upon obtaining his engineering degree, he joined Intecsea WorleyParsons as a Structural/Geotechnical Engineer.

He re-joined Asian Geos in 2012 as a Geotechnical Engineer with his last position in the company as a Senior Commercial Engineer. He has worked onboard geotechnical vessels as a geotechnical engineer and team leader throughout South East Asia.

In October 2016 he was transferred to Helms Geomarine as a Technical Manager and took on a leading role to develop the geotechnical capabilities and management of Helms Geomarine including working as team leader for projects in Taiwan and Korea.

Syahril has now assumed the role of General Manager to oversee the day to day management of the Company and to further expand the capabilities of the company.


Senior Project & Operation Manager

Syaiful Abu Bakar, 47, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from University of Technology MARA, Malaysia.

He has more than 20 years of experience in offshore geotechnical survey operations & project management, working for various offshore geotechnical survey companies such as Offshore Works, Orogenic Geocore and Asian Geos before joining Helms Geomarine.

Bringing in his experience working with the various offshore geotechnical survey companies, Syaiful now oversees the overall project and operations of the company, developing and implementing best practices as the Senior Project & Operation Manager.


Senior Finance Manager

Halim Jaafar, 53, is a Chartered Accountant and a member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) with more than 25 years of experience in project financial management including with Schlumberger and Orogenic Group.

His forte is in setting up and managing Finance and Accounting functions for various industries as well as Process Improvement for existing systems.

Halim’s current responsibilities include managing the company’s finances & corporate matters, financial planning, management of financial risks, record-keeping and financial reporting.


Project Manager

Ahmad Khairuddin, 37, is a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering holder from Universiti Teknologi MARA and has been involved in offshore geotechnical engineering and operation for almost 12 years.

His professional journey began in 2012 when he joined Asian Geos as a Geotechnical Engineer, eventually progressing to the position of Project Engineer upon joining Helms Geomarine in 2018. Since then, he has been involved in both oil & gas and windfarm projects as the Team Leader as well as part of the Project Management team, covering Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia.

Currently, Khairuddin is responsible for managing geotechnical projects at Helms Geomarine using the Keyfield Helms and Azuma, ensuring the fulfillment of client requirements and efficient utilization of project resources.


Operation Manager

Najib Sani, 43, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Technology MARA, Malaysia.

He started working as a Geotechnical Engineer with Asian Geos in 2005 with his last position in the company as the Project Manager. He was assigned as a geotechnical engineer as well as a team leader on numerous offshore geotechnical projects in Europe, Caspian Sea and Asia.

Overall, Najib has 18 years of experience in offshore geotechnical operation and management and is currently managing the geotechnical operations of Helms Geomarine ensuring timely project delivery with minimal operational downtimes.


QHSE Manager

Ahmad Helmi, 36, graduated from University of Technology PETRONAS with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and has more than 10 years of experience in the offshore QHSE management and geotechnical operation.

He embarked on his career after obtaining his certification from NIOSH by working a with a prominent Oil and Gas company as Safety and Health Officer in 2013. The role involves extensive offshore assignments on platforms and vessels, apart from the mandatory reporting and audits. In 2019, he joined Helms Geomarine and has been actively engaged as a QHSE Officer on numerous offshore geotechnical projects in South East Asia.

Helmi presently serves as the QHSE Manager at Helms Geomarine, ensuring the fulfillment of all client and statutory requirements. He also takes on the role of championing and promoting QHSE awareness and ownership within the organization, all the while maintaining the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.


Engineering Manager

Rosnita Esa, 44, graduated from University of Malaya with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and has 18 years of experience in offshore, nearshore and onshore soil investigation both in design consultancy and operation.

She has worked on multiple geotechnical vessels for oil and gas projects and even promoted to Party Chief to lead the soil boring vessel operation before developing her career in geotechnical QA/QC and design.

Rosnita is now leading the Engineering Department and responsible for the geotechnical engineering analysis, software development and QA/QC of offshore in-situ test data.


Laboratory Manager

Ardian Zaldy, 37, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Technology Malaysia and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Port Dickson Polytechnic.

His professional journey commenced in 2008 when he became part of the Asian Geos team, initially taking on the role of Lab Technician and later advancing to the position of Offshore Lab Engineer. During his extensive career spanning almost 15 years, he has gained a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the domains of onshore and offshore geotechnical lab testing, participating in multiple geotechnical assignments across South East Asia as well as Europe.

Currently, Ardian holds the pivotal responsibility of overseeing the soil laboratory testing facilities, both onshore and aboard the the company’s geotechnical vessels, ensuring comprehensive fulfillment of lab testing requisites, efficient management of soil samples as well as meticulous reporting.


Technical Manager

Nazrin Ridhwan, 34, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Long Beach, USA and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from University of Technology MARA, Malaysia.

His current responsibilities include the management and supervision of the company’s specialized testing and sampling operations such as the Downhole CPT, Seabed CPT, Vibrocore and Piston Core operations. He received a special training onboard the MV Flatholm in the UK and has been leading the Seabed CPT and vibrocoring project operations. He also provide operational support for other downhole testing and logging operations such as seismic CPT, in-situ vane shear, suspension PS logging, pressuremeter and borehole televiewer.

Nazrin also leads the R&D works for the company’s strategic assets to further expand the company’s range of in-situ testing services as well as to improve the efficiency and reliability of the company’s operations.
