HELMS Awarded Major Offshore Geotechnical Contract, Continuing a Legacy Built Since 1989

Kuala Lumpur, 14 November 2025 — Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) is pleased to share the continuation of its long-standing working relationship with Sarawak Shell Berhad (SHELL), following the recent award for the Provision of Offshore Geotechnical Engineering Services.

While the contract marks another important milestone for HELMS, building on the earlier 2022–2025 engagement, it also carries a personal meaning for the company’s Managing Director, Dato’ Ir. Mohamad Helmi Zulkawi (Dato’ Helmi), whose early offshore career began more than three decades ago.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dato’ Helmi served onboard the geotechnical survey vessel MV Teknik Samudra, undertaking offshore soil investigation campaigns for both SHELL and PETRONAS. These formative years shaped the technical discipline, operational standards, and values that continue to guide HELMS’ work today.

“My career began on the MV Teknik Samudra in 1989 during SHELL and PETRONAS soil investigation campaigns. Those early experiences remain the foundation of how we deliver our work today,” he shared.

The latest award reflects a continuity of trust built over decades and connects HELMS’ current capabilities with a legacy that began in Malaysian waters in the late 1980s.
