HELMS and GEOVIEW Deliver Challenging 2026 Winter Campaign in Offshore Korea

Busan, 29 March 2026 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS), in support of its Korean partner Geoview Co., Ltd. (GEOVIEW), is pleased to announce the successful completion of an offshore geotechnical investigation campaign for an offshore wind farm project located off Taean-gun, Republic of Korea.

The scope of work comprised borehole drilling, sampling, downhole cone penetration tests (PCPT), and onboard laboratory testing, including thermal conductivity, to support foundation design. A total of nearly 50 sampling and PCPT boreholes were successfully completed in water depths of up to 65 meters.

Undertaken during the winter season, the campaign encountered challenging offshore conditions including strong tidal currents, significant tidal variations, cold temperatures, reduced visibility due to sea fog, active fishing activity, and variable seabed conditions with shallow hard layers. Despite these conditions, the works were executed in a steady and controlled manner, in line with project requirements.

The campaign was executed from the drilling barge G-Star between mid of February and end of March 2026, marking another successful deployment of the geotechnical spread in the region.

With HELMS delivering geotechnical drilling and in-situ testing, and GEOVIEW managing the marine spread operations and overall project coordination, the collaboration continues to reinforce its track record as a reliable offshore geotechnical service provider—supporting offshore wind developments in South Korea while remaining actively engaged across Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asia region.
