Another Winter Campaign Completed by HELMS in South Korea

Busan, 23 April 2025 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) together with its local Korean partner, have recently completed another geotechnical investigation campaign during the winter season in South Korea. The previous winter campaigns in South Korea were done back in 2021/2022 and 2023/2024 seasons.

A key highlight of this year’s campaign was the deployment of a 4-point mooring barge outfitted with spud legs, offering enhanced station-keeping capabilities with the drilling and engineering reporting performance carried out by the personnel of HELMS.

The campaign involved drilling of more than a dozen boreholes, incorporating downhole Piezocone Penetration Tests (PCPTs), soil sampling, and Standard Penetration Tests (SPTs).

General Manager, Syahril Ikhwan said “This was a bittersweet yet deeply meaningful campaign for our crew. Despite enduring sub-zero temperatures and being away from their families during both our company’s Family Day and the first week of Hari Raya, they remained committed and professional throughout. I’m proud of their resilience and am glad to welcome them home—many of whom were able to join our recent Hari Raya Open House celebration.

Following the successful conclusion of this campaign, the barge—now equipped with a new rotation of crew members—has departed for southwest Korea, where HELMS will continue to play an important role in executing another major geotechnical campaign for a prominent offshore windfarm developer.

This achievement further cements HELMS’ position as a regional leader in offshore geotechnical services supporting both the Oil & Gas and Offshore Windfarm projects particularly in supporting Asia’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
