Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (Helms) has completed the installation of a brand-new geotechnical drilling rig onboard a DP2 vessel, Dolphin Geo Survey.
The 66m long vessel is operated by Dolphin Geo Subsea Pte. Ltd. (Dolphin) and it will be introduced into the market under a strategic partnership with Helms to cover the Asian region with particular focus on the oil & gas exploration, offshore windfarm development and geological research projects.
Greg Kim Yong Bae, the Managing Director of the Mtide Offshore group of Korea and Dolphin in Singapore, said: “We are out to challenge the offshore market amid the oil and gas crisis and when most countries in the Far East are just recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic. We are optimistic that by going forward with the delivery of this DP2 geotechnical vessel, Dolphin and Helms will be well positioned to gain a sizeable market share when the offshore market recovers.”
Helmi Zulkawi, Managing Director of Helms group, said: “The drill kit onboard Dolphin Geo Survey is installed over a moonpool and heave-compensated with capability to handle 600 meters of standard API drillstrings. At business level, this partnership with Dolphin gives us the opportunity to promote and secure more international geotechnical survey projects using a high end and relatively newer vessel; leveraging both parties’ experience and resources.”
With increasing requirement for vessel age and DP2 station keeping by clients, the 6-year-old Dolphin Geo Survey with capacity of 81 pax makes it a timely entry into the market.
