HELMS Re-Enters the Malaysian Market with Completion of a SHELL Campaign

Bintulu, 10 March 2022 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) has recently completed a geotechnical investigation campaign for Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB) at offshore Bintulu. HELMS’ DP2 geotechnical survey vessel, the Keyfield Helms was mobilized for this project in water depths of 80 to 90 metres.

The campaign kicked off in early November 2021 for the purpose of jackup entry analysis, platform foundation and shallow subsea foundation designs. At the end of November 2021, the campaign was put on hold with consent by SSB to allow Keyfield Helms to perform a pre-awarded Korean Offshore Windfarm (OWF) campaign that required to be completed by January 2022.

Upon completion of the Korean OWF campaign, the vessel returned to Bintulu to resume work for SSB in February 2022 and successfully completed the campaign in early March 2022 including the performance of a pilot hole drilling for shallow gas hazard assessment.

General Manager, Syahril Ikhwan said, “Our last campaign in Malaysia was back in 2016 when Asian Geos was still with us. Since then, HELMS has secured and performed works exclusively outside Malaysia in collaboration with our international partners. Having secured a 3-year contract with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd in May 2021, we are now poised to secure more works locally in particular for high-end geotechnical contracts requiring the deployment of a DP2 vessel.”

HELMS is now a leading offshore geotechnical service provider in Malaysia being the only local company that provides two DP2 geotechnical survey vessels servicing both the Oil & Gas and Offshore Windfarm markets.
