HELMS Mobilizes for Offshore Wind Geotechnical Project in Taiwan

Kemaman, 25 February 2021 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd’s (HELMS) DP2 geotechnical vessel, the Dolphin Geo Survey, fully mobilized with geotechnical crew onboard, cast off from Kemaman Port in Malaysia today to Taichung Port in Taiwan for its first offshore geotechnical campaign this year.

Under the contract with a reputable windfarm operator of Taiwan which came into effect in December 2020, HELMS will provide offshore geotechnical investigation services including the engineering analysis and reporting for the design of offshore sub-structure for wind turbines in the west coast of Taiwan. The site investigation project will take around 3 months to be completed.

General Manager, Syahril Ikhwan said, “The same vessel (formerly RS Shankar) had successfully performed offshore geotechnical investigation works in Taiwan in 2018. Having done almost 50 offshore boreholes in 2018 and 2019 in Taiwan using another vessel, HELMS is again being given the opportunity to perform more offshore geotechnical investigation works this time by a reputable local windfarm operator”.

HELMS is a full-fledged offshore geotechnical company with proven track records of performing offshore geotechnical projects in South East Asia, the Far East, the Middle East and Australia. Going into its tenth year of Group existence offering specialized offshore geotechnical services, HELMS is eyeing to expand its geotechnical operation not only in the Far East including Japan and Korea but also in South East Asia particularly in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam with the introduction of a second DP2 geotechnical vessel before end of second quarter this year.
