HELMS Lands Record Contract with Petronas Carigali amidst Malaysian Offshore Boom

Kuala Lumpur, 23 May 2024 – In a significant achievement, Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS), a leading Malaysian offshore oil and gas support services provider, has just secured a new long-term contract with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB). The contract is for a firm 3-year duration with options for two additional one-year extensions, and stands as the biggest contract of its kind in Malaysia in terms of both value and volume. This significant award of the contract highlights a projected resurgence in Malaysia’s oil and gas sector over the next three to five years.

HELMS will undertake the scope of works using two specialized DP2 geotechnical survey vessels, the Keyfield Helms 1 and the Azuma, to perform comprehensive geotechnical surveys across key regions in offshore Sarawak, Sabah and Terengganu. The operations will include geotechnical drilling, soil sampling, in situ testing as well as pilot hole drillings, which are crucial for collecting essential offshore soil data for the foundation design of offshore structures including assessment for jack-up drilling rig emplacement.

Dato’ Ir. Helmi Zulkawi, the founder and Managing Director of HELMS, emphasized the company’s strong track records with PETRONAS and other major oil operators as well as those in the offshore Renewable sectors. To date, HELMS has successfully completed projects in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Philippines, Australia and United Arab Emirates, solidifying its reputation in the marine industry.

In addition to PCSB service agreement, HELMS also holds key contracts with Sarawak Shell Berhad (SHELL), Carigali Hess Operating Company (CHOC), PTTEP Thailand (PTTEP) and Chevron Thailand (CHEVRON) in the region. With a paid-up capital of MYR 25 million, this 100% Bumiputera-owned company is set for further expansions into the Far East and re-entry into the Middle East markets. To meet increasing demand, HELMS plans to deliver another DP2 geotechnical survey vessel in Q3 2024, enhancing ongoing Oil & Gas (O&G) projects in Malaysia and South East Asia, in addition to potentially extending coverage for the Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) markets.
