Songkhla, 27 September 2022 – PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited also known as PTTEP, awarded Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) a contract to provide offshore geotechnical investigation at their fields in the Gulf of Thailand.

The scope was for shallow gas pilot holes, geotechnical drilling, sampling and various in-situ testing as well as engineering reporting for both jack up and piled platform locations, with the fieldwork initially scheduled for completion in early October 2022.

Party Chief onboard, Aizuddin Shaari said, “A big applause should be given to the PTTEP team for their teamwork approach in supporting the Contractor to ensure a smooth equipment downtime-free operation. Also, I would say each personnel for this campaign had done a really good job. They were really committed to their work and I hope that the top management appreciates each of them”.

The project utilised the dedicated DP2 geotechnical vessel Keyfield Helms that is currently being demobilised in Songkhla Port and will be prepared for subsequent large offshore geotechnical campaigns for PETRONAS in Malaysia. The oil and gas project locations in Malaysia will cover various different fields in offshore Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah. The campaigns for PETRONAS alone are expected to run continuously until April 2023. With other works in the pipeline for SHELL and PTTEP Malaysia as well, the Keyfield Helms will be busy with firm works beyond April 2023.

Dato’ Helmi Zulkawi, HELMS’ founder and Managing Director, said, “I am very pleased with the successful completion of the fieldwork in Thailand (after previous campaign in Myanmar also for PTTEP) as it not only provides continuity for HELMS’ geotechnical assets and engineering services but it’s also further strengthens our leading position in Malaysia and Southeast Asia region especially in the higher end DP2 geotechnical drilling services and establishes our long standing relationship with PTTEP”.

HELMS, a Malaysian company with now more than 11 years of group track records in executing international geotechnical survey projects, at the current moment holds long term offshore soil boring contracts with PETRONAS and SHELL in Malaysia. In the Renewable Energy sector, HELMS has been providing offshore geotechnical services to support the Offshore Windfarm Development with past and ongoing projects in Taiwan, Korea and Japan with plans to expand into the emerging sector in Vietnam.
