HELMS Completes its First Geotechnical Drilling Campaign with PETRONAS for 2022

Kemaman, 4 November 2022 – Using its dedicated soil boring vessel the Keyfield Helms, Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) have just completed its first geotechnical drilling campaign for PETRONAS in the East Coast of Malaysia.

The project specifically calls for a DP2 capable vessel due to the requirement to perform the drilling operation close to an existing live platform as well as pilot hole drilling for shallow gas which was part of the overall scope apart from sampling and PCPTs for jackup rig spudcan penetration analysis.

Najib Sani, Senior Project Manager said, “The vessel and crew performed remarkably well under stringent safety requirement from PETRONAS. Despite the tight schedule plus the arrival of the monsoon season, we still managed to complete the project ahead of schedule”.

This campaign is the first of a series of continuous campaigns by PETRONAS going through the monsoon season and well into the following year until at least April 2023 with tentative project lineups going beyond April 2023.

The Keyfield Helms is a 2017 built, DP2 geotechnical vessel, specially mobilized and notated for Offshore Geotechnical Survey, have so far racked up a number of track records for both oil & gas and windfarm projects stretching from Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar to South Korea.
