HELMS Completes Geotechnical Campaign for an Oil and Gas Development in Myanmar

Yangon, 10 August 2022 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) recently completed a major geotechnical campaign in the Indian ocean to support PTTEP’s exploration and development in Myanmar.

The acquired geotechnical data will support the design activities related to the offshore construction of platforms at Zawtika and Aung Singkha fields. HELMS was solely responsible for the fieldwork and laboratory testing of the acquired samples and the data acquired is currently used to design jack up and piled platform foundations. The scope includes downhole samplings, PCPT, downhole vane shear and seismic CPT tests.

HELMS mobilized its dedicated geotechnical drilling vessel, the DP2 Keyfield Helms, to Myeik to execute over 10 sampling and CPT boreholes varying in water depths from 100 to 160 metres.

Technical Manager cum Party Chief Aizat Aziz said, “This has been a challenging project in view of the ongoing Covid-19 issues we encountered during the mobilisation phase and also the adverse weather conditions during the fieldworks as well as the relatively deep water depths. With the completion of the PTTEP Myanmar campaign, this presents another successful project for us in Southeast Asia and it surely strengthens our position in the regional offshore market.”

The Keyfield Helms with a fresh drilling team is now currently working in the Gulf of Thailand also for PTTEP with a scope that includes deep shallow gas pilot hole drilling. Keyfield Helms is expected to complete the campaign in early October 2022 and return to Malaysia for firm works with PETRONAS and SHELL of which HELMS currently hold long-term 3 year contracts respectively.
