HELMS Signs Strategic Partnership with Gujurly Inžener to Pursue Offshore Energy Opportunities in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, 17 June 2026 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS), a leading Malaysian provider of offshore geotechnical, geophysical and marine survey services, is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gujurly Inžener (GI), a respected engineering and oil & gas services company headquartered in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The MOU was formally signed by Dato’ Ir. Helmi Zulkawi (Dato’ Helmi), Managing Director of HELMS, and Mr. Ahmed Annaniyazovich Nurymov, General Director of GI, following a strategic business meeting held at GI’s office in Ashgabat on 17 June 2026.

The partnership establishes a framework for cooperation between the two companies in pursuing offshore energy opportunities in Turkmenistan, particularly within the Caspian Sea. Areas of collaboration include offshore geotechnical site investigations, geophysical site surveys, offshore positioning services and other specialized marine survey activities supporting offshore oil and gas developments.

Through this collaboration, HELMS and GI will combine their respective strengths to deliver integrated, efficient and locally supported solutions to energy operators and developers in the region. HELMS brings extensive international offshore survey experience and technical capabilities, while GI contributes valuable local expertise, market knowledge and established relationships within Turkmenistan’s energy, logistics and maritime sectors.

HELMS is no stranger to the Caspian Sea. Under the leadership of Dato’ Helmi and its senior management team, the company possesses significant regional experience through previous offshore geotechnical site investigation projects undertaken for PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd (PC(T)SB) in 2005 and 2010. These projects involved offshore geotechnical drilling, seabed sampling and in-situ testing programs supporting offshore field developments in Diyarbekir Field in Block 1, Offshore Turkmenistan.

This experience has provided HELMS with a strong understanding of the region’s operating environment, regulatory landscape and project execution requirements, positioning the company well to support the next phase of offshore development activities in Turkmenistan.

Commenting on the partnership, Dato’ Helmi said:

“We are delighted to partner with Gujurly Inžener (GI) as we strengthen HELMS’ presence in Turkmenistan and re-establish our footprint in the Caspian Sea. This collaboration combines HELMS’ offshore technical expertise with GI’s strong local capabilities and market knowledge, creating a solid platform to support future offshore developments in the region.”

“We see significant potential for growth in Turkmenistan’s offshore energy sector and look forward to contributing Malaysian expertise, technology and operational excellence in support of our clients’ future projects.”

As a 100% Malaysian-owned and Bumiputera-controlled company, HELMS continues to expand its international presence while showcasing Malaysian capabilities in offshore geotechnical, geophysical and marine survey services. The company currently supports offshore oil and gas, renewable energy and carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects across Malaysia and international markets through its fleet of Malaysian-flagged vessels, specialized survey assets and highly experienced technical personnel.

The signing of this MOU reflects the shared commitment of HELMS and GI to establish a long-term strategic partnership that supports the sustainable growth of Turkmenistan’s offshore energy industry through the exchange of expertise, technology and local capabilities.
