HELMS Completed a Series of Campaigns for Decommissioning Works in Offshore Sarawak
Bintulu, 2 April 2026 – Helms Geomarine Sdn Bhd (HELMS) has successfully completed a series of back-to-back offshore geotechnical drilling campaigns in Sarawak waters, supporting jack-up entries for plug and abandonment (P&A) activities. The campaigns were executed from end-January through to end-March 2026.
While offshore operations are typically challenged by adverse weather conditions, these campaigns presented a different scenario. Prolonged calm conditions, characterized by low wind speeds and minimal sea currents, posed operational constraints. Given the presence of shallow gas risks in the area, a certain level of environmental energy is required to safely disperse any potential gas releases during drilling operations.
Despite the limited windows of ideal conditions, HELMS successfully planned and executed the works in a safe and controlled manner. The team also incorporated a scheduled two-week pause during the Hari Raya period to reset crew Tour of Duty (TOD) cycles before resuming and completing the campaign.
Commenting on the achievement, Chief Operating Officer, Syahril Ikhwan said, “The beauty of soil investigation is that it allows us to play a role across the entire lifecycle of oil and gas projects from exploration and development through to decommissioning. It’s what makes this service both essential and highly adaptable.”
This series of campaigns further reinforces HELMS’ capability in supporting late-life asset operations, while maintaining strong safety and operational discipline under varying offshore conditions.
